In America

Fudia Kabba, her son Lamin and niece Jeneba came to Baton Rouge, LA, in late July of 2004 from a refugee camp in Freetown, Sierra Leone. They were forced from their home country, Liberia, by war over 14 years ago and arrived in America with nothing. Coming to America was bittersweet, since half of Fudia's family remains in Sierra Leone. "I am always thinking about Africa," Fudia says of the long days she spends in her small Baton Rouge apartment. "But I am happy now."

This is the story of their first month in America.
